Are you passionate about supporting young men aged 13-20 in a Shelter Environment?

Anglicare Tasmania is seeking a casual Support Worker - Youthcare (hours offered when available) based in Moonah.

About the Role:

This role is to provide client focused crisis accommodation to young people in collaboration with the Coordinator - Youth 2 Independence & Youthcare and to develop a young person's independence and self-sufficiency. Youthcare is staffed 24/7 and casual staff need to be available to cover a range of shifts including weekends and sleepovers. Shifts include 8am-4pm and 3pm-midnight (including sleepovers ending at 8am the following morning). Shift times are set and cannot be altered.

To be successful you will have:
  • Knowledge and experience with issues pertaining to youth homelessness and an understanding of the social and political context in which they occur.
  • Understanding of the concepts of social justice, social change and empowerment, and their application to practice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of case management principles, and their application to practice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role and its implications in relation to duty of care, legal issues and relevant State and Commonwealth legislation, including the Working Together Protocols.
  • Ability to contribute to a professional team environment including participation in team debriefing, program planning activities, and a variety of other team based consultative processes.
  • Interpersonal skills including the ability to conduct interviews and assessments, crisis intervention, provide advocacy, counseling, problem solving, mediation and conflict resolution as required.
  • Understanding of the concept of advocacy and its application to practice.
  • Knowledge and ability to effectively utilise the regional network of community support services and resources available to Youth Care clients.
  • Time management and organisational skills with the ability to effectively set priorities and maintain confidentiality

The successful applicant will be required to:
  • provide a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration (employment/volunteer category) including NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • present an unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable people type National Police Check (no older than 12 months);
  • provide an International Police Check if you have resided for 12 months or more outside of Australia after the age of 16;
  • provide a satisfactory Anglicare-assessed medical:
  • provide a current provisional or full Australian Driver’s Licence.
On commencement, the successful applicant will be required to undertake our structured Safeguarding Children Training program.

This position is available for an immediate start and applications will be shortlisted upon receipt.
