Development Engineer

Help deliver sustainable development outcomes for our growing city. Join one of Tasmania’s largest councils and play a key role in assessing development applications, providing engineering advice, and ensuring new infrastructure is designed and delivered to meet community needs and Council standards.

What you’ll be doing

• Assessing development applications, engineering plans and technical reports.
• Providing engineering advice on roads, traffic, stormwater, flooding, earthworks and infrastructure servicing.
• Working with developers, consultants, service authorities and internal stakeholders to support quality development outcomes.
• Preparing engineering-related permit conditions and ensuring compliance with Council standards and statutory requirements.
• Responding to referrals, enquiries and investigations, and preparing technical advice and reports.
• Supporting inspections, compliance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you’ll bring

• Degree qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in civil engineering design, assessment and construction practices.
• Knowledge of development assessment processes and engineering matters relating to roads, traffic, stormwater and infrastructure.
• Sound understanding of relevant legislation, planning processes and regulatory requirements.
• Strong problem-solving, organisational and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proficiency in engineering software and contemporary computer systems.
• Current Tasmanian drivers licence and White Card, or the ability to obtain one.
• National Police Check Certificate (dated within 6 months), must be provided before commencement.
• Experience in development engineering, development assessment and/or local government will be highly regarded.
