St Michael's Collegiate School is seeking an experienced and strategic Finance Manager to lead the School's financial operations and contribute to the ongoing success of one of Tasmania's leading independent schools.
Reporting to the Director of Business Services, this senior leadership role is responsible for the management of the School's finance function, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll. The Finance Manager will provide high-quality financial leadership, reporting, compliance, budgeting and strategic financial advice to support sound decision-making and the achievement of the School's strategic objectives.

About the Role
The Finance Manager will lead all aspects of the School's financial operations and financial infrastructure, ensuring effective financial management, strong governance, regulatory compliance and sustainable business practices.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading and developing the finance team
Managing accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll functions
Leading budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling processes
Preparing management reports, financial statements and Board reporting
Managing statutory and regulatory compliance obligations
Leading internal and external audit processes
Managing banking, cash flow, borrowing facilities and financial risk
Overseeing DGR fund administration and reporting
Managing the School's insurance program and claims processes
Driving continuous improvement, automation and system enhancements across the finance function.
About You
You are a qualified finance professional with demonstrated experience leading finance functions in a complex organisation. You bring strong expertise in financial management, reporting, compliance, budgeting and governance, together with the analytical and strategic capability to support informed decision-making and organisational success.
An effective and collaborative leader, you build strong relationships, develop high-performing teams and drive continuous improvement through efficient systems, processes and controls. You demonstrate integrity, professionalism and sound judgement, and are committed to contributing to a values-based school community.
Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, applicants will demonstrate:
Essential
Professional Qualification
Full membership of CA ANZ or CPA Australia.
Senior Finance Leadership Experience
Minimum five years' experience in a senior finance leadership or management role with responsibility for financial operations, reporting, compliance and governance.
Financial Management Expertise
Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management and financial analysis within a complex organisation.
Governance, Risk and Compliance
Proven experience managing statutory reporting, taxation obligations, audit processes, internal controls and financial compliance frameworks.
Leadership and People Management
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop teams while fostering accountability, collaboration and high performance.
Strategic and Analytical Capability
Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to provide strategic financial advice and support organisational planning.
Stakeholder Engagement
Highly developed communication and relationship management skills with the ability to work effectively with executives, managers, committees, external advisers and regulators.
Systems and Continuous Improvement
Experience identifying and implementing process improvements, system enhancements and automation initiatives that improve efficiency, controls and service delivery.
Values Alignment

Desirable
Experience in the independent school, education, not-for-profit or similarly regulated sector.
Experience presenting financial information to Boards, Committees or executive leadership groups.
